The case holds a nice ''COLTS PATENT'' powder flask with Federal Eagle, a nearly full japanned tin of Cock's percussion caps and a wedge-shaped tin of lead round balls. The pistol includes an attractive period case with red baize lining showing some thin drying cracks along the length of the lid and small glue repairs while the lining shows scattered scuffs, light staining and one spacer is loose. All of the serialized parts are matching including the wedge and the action seems to function well mechanically with solid timing and lockup. The grips show a lovely mellow patina throughout with nice age striations. The smooth ivory grips remain in very good condition showing a couple tiny thin cracks along the bases, a longer thin crack on the left side and repaired small chips at the right side toe and back edge. Also noteworthy are the iron backstrap and triggerguard, a rather rare feature in and of itself for an 1849 Pocket. The revolver has seen some use, the metal surfaces mostly toned to a medium gray patina showing some scattered spots of light old pitting but the engraving is still clear overall, the cylinder scene is largely intact and the safety pins are remarkably mostly intact. The hammer features a wolf's head, the ''COLTS PATENT'' on the frame is hand-engraved and the barrel marking is engraved in fancy script ''Saml Colt''. This is a very attractive Gustave Young-engraved revolver featuring his lovely flowing scrollwork, punch-dot shading and signature dog's head integrated into the scroll above the rammer screw head. 31 cal, 4'' octagon barrel with a very good bore showing light pitting and strong rifling throughout.
